Named Accountable GP

Your named accountable GP

Every patient at our practice is allocated a "named accountable GP."  This is the doctor who has overall responsibility for making sure your care and support meet your needs.

You do not need to take any action. We arrange this automatically when you register. If you want to know who your named GP is, just ask a member of our reception team.

Can I still see any doctor or nurse?

Yes. Having a named GP does not mean you can only see that specific doctor.

  • You can book appointments with any doctor or nurse at the practice.
  • Your named GP cannot be personally available every day of the week, and they do not provide 24-hour care.
  • Seeing different members of our team will not affect the quality of your care.

Can I choose or change my named GP?

We allocate a named GP to balance the workloads across our medical team. However, if you would prefer to be assigned to a different doctor, we will make reasonable efforts to accommodate your choice.

To request a change, please email us at: administrator.lyme@dorsetgp.nhs.uk

Patients aged 75 and over

For our patients aged 75 and over, your named GP has a slightly broader role. They will:

  • Work closely with outside health and social care professionals (like community nurses or social workers) to coordinate your care.
  • Ensure you are offered an annual health check.
